Dr. Sana Amairi-Pyka

Lead Scientist – Quantum Communications

Quantum Research Centre - TII

Dr. Sana Amairi-Pyka is Lead Scientist for Quantum Communications at the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. She is an experimental physicist specializing in quantum optical metrology and space-based secure free-space optical communications. In 2014 she obtained her Ph.D. from the prestigious Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany, in the field of Optical Frequency Standards. As a postdoctoral researcher, she spent 5 years developing and testing novel laser sources for space applications, including the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) led by the European Space Agency (ESA), at Humboldt University of Berlin. After that, she joined the industry as a Project Leader at the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC). In January 2017, Sana was awarded highly competitive funding for her scientific research by the Berlin Senate Administration BCP and became an ambassadress for the” Brain City Berlin” campaign. She is an international lecturer, with several publications in renowned scientific reviews. She contributed to the setting and improvement of several research laboratories in Europe, the MENA Region, and Australia and is an experienced external evaluator at European Commission-funded projects.

MODERATOR SESSION

Aerospace 2050

16 November 2023 | 13:25 - 13:55 | Panel: Quantum Tech in Space

Space is critical to the development and deployment of new quantum technologies. Quantum sensors reach peak performance away from gravity's influence. On Earth, fibre optic losses limit secure quantum communication. Satellites can bridge this gap, enabling secure quantum links worldwide. This progress sets the stage for a Global Quantum Network, including quantum computers and Quantum Internet. Satellites are thus positioned as key nodes in our future Quantum-Connected planet. So, what tools might we be lacking to fully realize this extraordinary advancement?
