Hayden is the Senior Manager for Portfolio Development within the Boeing Applied Innovation organization. He is responsible for realizing the investment thesis and capturing strategic value through innovative partnerships with Portfolio Companies. He interfaces directly with executive leaders at startups and Boeing Business Leaders to develop and execute a prioritized set of projects and partnerships. Portfolio Development collaborations include joint R&D, directed R&D, part and service procurement, teaming agreements, distribution agreements, and customer engagements. These projects occur across the globe and address commercial, government, and military customers.
Prior to joining the Applied Innovation team, Hayden Shea was the Chief of Staff of Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T), the advanced central research and development unit of The Boeing Company. He reported directly to the VP/GM who led a team of nearly 4,000 engineers, scientists, technicians and technologists who create and collaborate with R&D partners around the world to provide innovative system solutions and technologies to solve the aerospace industry’s toughest challenges. Hayden was responsible for driving business operations and strategic initiatives.
Earlier in his career, Hayden was a Systems Engineer and Project Manager for Development Program Excellence (DPE) initiative — one of three corporate initiatives designed to drive productivity and growth for The Boeing Company. Hayden led projects designed to improve development programs through the creation and implementation of the Reuse and Commonality, Design for Value, and Part and Product Teardown methodologies.
Hayden started with Boeing as a design and stress analysis engineer at the Boeing Philadelphia Design center. He worked on wide body commercial aircraft, the KC-46 USAF Tanker, and the CH-47 Chinook Cargo Helicopter.
Hayden earned his Bachelors of Science in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech and his Masters of Science in mechanical engineering at Villanova University. Hayden is based out of the Boeing Washington, DC office.
